Livermore Public Library – Information Devolution: How Cellphones, Social Media, and AI Shape News, Politics, and Us
All Livermore Public Library patrons now have free access to the Newsreel app! Newsreel was created by Jack Brewster, an award-winning journalist, who set out to create something for people who have given up on the news. It is an interactive, nonpartisan daily news and media-literacy resource that provides current reporting from vetted journalists and subject experts. It includes short-form news, quizzes, polls, multiple perspectives on current issues, and tools intended to help readers evaluate and understand the news.
Jack Brewster was named to the Forbes 30 Under 30 list and has reported for Forbes, the WSJ, Time Magazine, Fortune, Vice News and NewsGuard. He traced the false claim about Haitian migrants eating pets back to its source. Brewster’s reporting and research have been featured in the New York Times, the BBC, CNN and dozens of other news outlets. He has been nominated for a Pulitzer.
At 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 22, Brewster will visit Livermore Public Library to deliver a program called, “Information Devolution: How Cellphones, Social Media, and AI Shape News, Politics, and Us.” All are welcome to come and learn how the rapidly changing information landscape is changing how we consume the news, as well as ask Brewster questions about the Newsreel app. The program will be held in the Storytime Room at Civic Center Library, 1188 S. Livermore Ave., Livermore.
